Overlap that of xCT. Similar to xCT, 4F2hc is present in neurons Figure 3A ; and glia Figure 3B ; of the mouse cerebral cortex, as well as in the leptomeninges Figure 3B ; and the ependymal cells that line the ventricles Figure 3C ; . However, noticeably different from the distribution of xCT, 4F2hc expression is also high in oligodendrocytes of the mouse subcortical white matter Figure 3D ; . 4F2hc is present in human brain cerebral cortical neurons, vascular endothelial cells Figure 3E ; and glial cells Figure 3F ; , again similar to the distribution of xCT in the human. Negative controls of the mouse cortex Figure 3G ; or human cortex Figure 3H ; are nearly devoid of background reactivity. These results demonstrate that the two individual components of system x-c have a very similar distribution in the mouse and human brain. Dietary cystine uptake in the intestine and resorption in the kidney is important for maintaining required levels of this amino acid within the body. We examined the distribution of the system x-c components in these organs to determine if they are positioned to mediate cystine transport. xCT Figure 4A ; and 4F2hc Figure 4C ; are present in the brush border membrane of the monkey renal tubules, the anatomical location for amino acid transport in this organ. In the intestine, both xCT Figure 4B ; and 4F2hc Figure 4D ; are located at the enterocyte brush border membrane, the site of dietary amino acid entry into the body. Figures 4A' through 4D' show the respective negative controls. These results show that system x-c is indeed positioned to mediate cystine and or glutamate transport in the duodenum and kidney.
The act of associating a local entity instance with an abstract entity instance is called globalization. When an entity instance has been globalized, it can be referenced from other processes than the process of origin. The reverse act, called localization happens when an entity instance is released from its abstract entity. After localization the entity can be freely accessed from the PS level, without interaction with the DSS. Globalization occurs when a reference to a previously local entity is passed over the network. The one exception to this are immutable data types associated with the immediate replication protocol. For efficiency reasons entities are only globalized when they truly become shared. Globalization is thus associated with the act of exporting an entity reference. Abstract entities are also created in association with importation. When a reference to shared entity is imported, either received in an entity state description or received as an argument to an entity operation, an entity instance and an abstract entity instance is created. The DSS automatically creates the abstract entity, and calls the PS to create the corresponding local entity instance. The DSS supports the at-mostone-copy-per-process property, so that new local entity instances are only created if the entity is unknown to the importing process. There are two conditions triggering localization, both detected in the DSS. Firstly, when the memory management facility detects that only one process refer to a shared entity the need for distribution support ceases, the abstract entity instance may be reclaimed i.e. there is only one instance left ; . Secondly, an abstract entity instance can explicitly terminate distribution support, e.g. when an immutable or transient become complete. Due to changes in the environment, i.e. process failures, the DSS can detect that a shared entity has ceased to function properly. This is reflected up to the PS level where appropriate actions can be taken, e.g. thread exceptions.

BRS, which at the time was seeking to expand its line of social science databases, offered to help develop the Catalyst file as a private file within their Education Services Group. When the database expanded to at least 3, 000 documents, they would offer it on the BRS system. DIALOG'S requirements for a public database were considerably most stringent regarding size and level of development. A mutually beneficial arrangement was made; BRS would help launch this new project, and the Catalyst database would be a unique offering for BRS users. A second Mellon Foundation grant for the library was due to expire at about the time that investigations into becoming a database producer began at Catalyst. Since we had secured an appropriate vendor and examined costs of production, we submitted a budget proposal for the project to the Mellon Foundation. They granted the request, agreeing to provide seed money to establish the Catalyst Resources for Women CRFW ; Database.
Maryland, Maine Senators Receive National Nursing Alliance's First-Ever Public Service Award Chicago The National Council of State Boards of Nursing NCSBN ; is extremely proud to be one of the many nursing organizations to honor U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski D-MD ; and U.S. Senator Susan Collins R-ME ; with the first-ever Americans for Nursing Shortage Relief ANSR ; Public Service Award for their successful efforts to increase funding for nursing programs necessary to reverse the nursing shortage. Numerous representatives of ANSR including NCSBN presented the Awards at a reception on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, March 1, 2005. The ANSR Alliance is composed of 50 nursing organizations that collectively represent nearly all of the Nation's 2.7 million nurses. ANSR's goal is to work with the Congress to implement a comprehensive set of initiatives to increase the nursing workforce. The nursing shortage is one of the most serious public health issues facing the United States today. The critical shortage of licensed nurses arises out of multitude of variables: an aging population with extended longevity but requiring more specialized care; a nursing workforce which primarily consists of baby boomers who are quickly approaching retirement age; and a diminishing supply of nursing students to make up the disparity. The shortage also extends to nursing faculty many nursing schools do not have enough faculty to teach young people interested in a career in nursing. Recently, President Bush requested 0 million for Nursing Workforce Development Programs in Fiscal Year 2006. That request represents a 4, 000 decrease from Fiscal Year 2005. The President also proposed cutting million for Advanced Nursing Education. Senators Mikulski and Collins have been the driving force behind significant increases in the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs. Funding for Title VIII increased from million in FY2003 to 1 million in FY2005, thanks to their efforts. These programs provide funds for nursing education and other programs crucial to stemming the nursing shortage. Myra Broadway, Executive Director of the Maine State Board of Nursing and Board Member of NCSBN, remarks, "Senator Collins serves as a shining example of what a today's advocate should be. She has worked with her fellow senators, and crossed party lines to garner support, and more importantly, to secure key votes." Senators Mikulski and Collins were recognized as true champions for nursing and for safeguarding the public health. They helped increase funding for nursing workforce development programs over the last three funding cycles and were instrumental in steering the Nurse Reinvestment Act through the Senate in 2002. NCSBN President and Maryland Board of Nursing Executive Director, Donna Dorsey, noted that Senator Mikulski continues to be one of the leading supporters of nursing in Maryland and on Capitol Hill. "I honored to recognize Senator Mikulski for this ANSR Alliance award on behalf of NCSBN, " she said. For questions related to the ANSR Alliance, please contact Gretchen Wright at 202.371.1999. In 2004-2005 there was a further increase of over 6 per cent. Over the past five years, FSE has seen more than a 37 per cent increase in the size of its undergraduate student body and elidel.
Initial evaluation of the test error of the algorithm. Briefly, this process involves splitting up the dataset into 10 random segments and using 9 of them for training and the 10th as a test set for the algorithm. Multiple trees were initially generated from the 122 classifiers by varying the splitting factor by increments of 0.1. These trees were evaluated by cross-validation analysis. The peaks that formed the main splitters of the tree with the highest prediction rates were then selected, the tree was rebuilt based on these peaks alone and evaluated by the test set. The values of P were calculated based on t-test Biomarker Wizard software ; . The value P .05 was considered to be statistically significant. RESULTS One hundred thirty-nine serum samples were assayed by SELDI mass spectrometry. Both SAX and IMAC surfaces could effectively resolve low-mass 20 kd ; protein peaks, although the SAX surface appeared superior in resolving larger 20 kd ; protein peaks. Figure 1 shows representative protein spectra from one serum sample processed on SAX and IMAC chips. Of a total of 139 serum samples, 124 85 controls and 39 cancers ; were randomly selected to form the learning set and 15 10 controls and 5 cancers ; to form the blinded test set for the algorithm. Five peaks were selected by the and dss.
