All patients underwent a sonographic examination on the first day of stimulation as well as on the day of ovulation induction, to measure the ovanan volume using a Combison 530 Kretz, Zipf, Austria ; 3-D ultrasound machine. Based on the horizontal and vertical planes which are represented by the traditional 2-D systems, the machine calculates the third, i.e. the frontal plane. All three planes arc simultaneously displayed on the screen, and an additional plane of comparison is provided for the operator to ascertain the layer in which he is working. By rotating and shifting the planes within the scanned volume, cross-sections can be created as desired. The Combison 530 calculation software offers the contour mode or ellipse mode for planimetric volume estimation. In the contour mode, a minimum of six parallel cross-sections are projected through the volume and the surfaces thus obtained are measured. The accuracy of the results depends on the number of planes measured. In the present study five to ten planes were measured for each ovary. Then the software computes the volume from the measured surfaces and the distances between them. The depicted ultrasound recordings are representative examples of volume estimation based on the Combison 530 calculation software. A critical step in the development of any QT algorithm is to determine the best start and end points for ventricular repolarization to obtain an accurate estimate of QT interval. To achieve this goal we compared the variability in the QT time series using different start and end points. Simulations of six commonly-encountered types of noise Table 4.1 ; were used to ascertain which of eight possible intervals produced the least degree of variability for each noise type. The variability of RTmax as a measurement of QT interval among six different patients is shown in Table 9 in paper II. In each case the sum of each type of simulated noise was added to the signal. Coefficients of variation cv ; were calculated to study the amount of variability with respect to the mean value of the analyzed time series. According to the obtained cv values, the variability of all QT time series were less than 11 % of the mean of each time series at all noise levels. For example, at SNR of 30 dB, the percentage amounts of variability were between 0.24 - 0.47 % compared to the mean cv of 0.32 %. The simulated noises were also added to the real ECG data in order to study the effect on the real variability. Because the majority of Prunedale hills maritime chaparral has not burned for at least 70 years, we feel that concern for the future of A. pajaroensis, C. cuneatus var. rigidus, and the other plants that characterize this unusual vegetation community is warranted. Neither they nor their seeds can survive forever. If wildfire continues to be excluded, the composition of these stands will undoubtedly be very different in the future. Management implications.
